Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a way of identifying people and goods by using technologies and products based on radio frequency.

Appearing first with Low Frequency (LF), the mid-90s saw High Frequency (HF) smart labels being introduced, followed now by the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) technology targeting the entire supply chain.

The RFID World consists of different objects which interact with each other. The two major components are:

  • A tag (transponder) or label with an on-board single chip processor, memory and an antenna. The tag can viewed as a barcode label, but with much more intelligence
  • A reader (interrogator) is a radio enabled device that communicates with the tag for reading and writing data back and forth to the tag

There are two major types of tags, according to the source of energy used to power them:

  • Passive tags receive their energy from the reader-field supplied by the reader to operate and communicate back to the reader;
  • Active tags have an embedded battery which offers the advantage of a longer communication range but the disadvantage of a limited life-span and a higher cost due to the battery.

According to your specific application and process requirements, we provide you with the most appropriate RFID solution and best-of-breed LF/HF/UHF tags (passive or active), printers, and readers. We collaborate with international partners such as Motorola, Intermec, Zebra, Datamax, Tagsys and Identec, amongst other RFID specialised providers and industry leaders.
