Repsol introduces innovations in fuel delivery processes The implementation of the new SAP R/3 ERP system in 2006 at Repsol was bound to bring changes in the fuel delivery process. Therefore, Repsol needed to find a mobility solution that would facilitate the delivery confirmation solution. “The implementation of the new mobility project needed to streamline the fuel distribution process, and it had to be integrated with the SAP R/3 ERP system and allow communication from anywhere in Portugal or Spain, to provide greater flexibility and reliability within our operation,” Repsol Portuguesa’s Transport Manager, Joaquim Reis, explains. In terms of hardware, the implemented solution involved the installation in all fuel delivery vehicles of a charging cradle, a Zebra thermal printer and a Motorola PDA with Bluetooth. For the Motorola handhelds, Zetes Burótica developed a solution - RepsolPort – designed to receive all the data provided by SAP R/3, executing the transactions by drivers in the field and subsequently sending the transactions directly back to the central ERP.

Zetes Strengthens 3i Print&Apply Competence Centre with MD Acquisition Following up on its strategic decision to enter the Print&Apply market, taken in 2006 with the acquisition of Powersys (based in Barcelona), Zetes recently decided to further expand its expertise and ability to service this market. Zetes hence acquired the assets and intellectual property of MD Systems, the market leading provider of Printer Applicator Solutions in Spain. MD Systems, also based in Barcelona, was very well respected in the market for its expertise and domain-knowledge, and its patented technologies such as the ‘touch and go’ system. Following the acquisition, Zetes’ existing 3i Print&Apply Competence Centre is strengthened with a team of 20 highly qualified professionals. The addition of the core team and a range of complementary products that are aligned with Zetes’ design philosophy make Zetes the nr 1 supplier of printer applicator based solutions in the Spanish market. Moreover, the addition of the extra capacity allows even better to distribute this expertise and range of solutions (encompassing solutions for box and pallet labelling, labelling of delicate products, at different heights and speeds, etc.) across the entire Zetes Group.

Zetes Launches 3iV Crystal 3iV Crystal: giving ‘voice solutions’ more options in a mature marketWhen a technology such as voice recognition goes through the different phases of maturity the market dynamics change and customer needs evolve. The story of many if not all technologies in a nutshell: A few dominant companies champion the technology and succeed in establishing one or more beachheads in one or different market niches. As they build upon early success the market gains traction and the momentum grows, major companies start to adopt the technology. But as they come on board and start to rely on the new technology to improve their overall business they come to realise the true potential but at the same time also their exposure. They might have made some compromises earlier that as their use – in this case of voice technology solutions - expands, they are no longer willing to make. So they go looking for more applications, for more vendors, for more possibilities. In short, they are looking for more choice. With voice recognition solutions for industrial environments it is no different. The market wants to expand the use of it but is looking for more options. This is why we introduce Zetes 3iV Crystal, the company’s next generation voice solution.

Productivity Up 30% Thanks to Voice Technology Zetes Voice Technology Helps Visionlab Boost its Productivity by 30%With over 150 points of sale in Spain, Portugal, the Czech Republic and Poland, Visionlab is one of the leading optical chains in Europe. Due to its fast growth, Visionlab had to think of a way of updating its supply systems to increase delivery speeds and offer an improved service. To keep to its promise of “your glasses in under an hour”, a new logistical model was devised that had to take into account the following demands: speed, flexibility, reliability, traceability and productivity. After carefully analysing the various available technologies, Visionlab opted for a combination of automatic carousels and the Zetes 3iVoice solution. The Zetes 3iV solution allows the exchange of information between the ERP or SGA and the voice-based data capture system. The advantage is that the operator works hands-free and carries out his work without taking his eyes off the task in hand, thus increasing his productivity, reliability and ergonomic comfort. This solution was supported by Talkman® T5 terminals from Vocollect®.

IKEA improves accuracy in supply chain with track and trace solution from Zetes IKEA Distribution Services Limited, the sole distributor for IKEA Limited in the UK, has installed a track and trace solution to effectively manage its growing number of customer deliveries since the launch of its Internet shopping service. Developed by Zetes, the bespoke solution provides increased visibility of IKEA’s stock from the moment it leaves the Central Distribution Centre in Peterborough to when it arrives at the customer’s house. Zetes has deployed its advanced data capture solution, Nucleus IS, to transfer information between IKEA’s existing home delivery management system (Axida HDi) and wireless mobile computers mounted in delivery trucks. At the start of a shift, the mobile computer retrieves route data from the Axida HDi system and presents the driver with a list of visits and relevant information. As the driver delivers the relevant items, the customer’s signature is captured and GPRS is used to relay updates to the main system.Currently, 60 delivery trucks are installed with the track and trace technology but IKEA anticipates further roll out in line with their e-commerce expansion. IKEA is also considering the technology in other operational countries.

Lean-production with RFID RFID Helps Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift Europe going over to lean-ProductionMitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift Europe (MCFE) is an international company, which manufactures fork-lift trucks for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In order to be able to respond to the growing demand for fork-lift trucks, there was a need for a new automated solution. Henri Snijders, IT Consultant at @work, comments: “An increased production rate of over 60% in the same size production facility is quite something. This is only possible if you reduce your stock. That is why MCFE wanted to go over to ‘lean-production’: no stock holding and everything being delivered Just In Time.” RFID works using radio frequencies. This allows RFID readers to read automatically, and from a distance, moving RFID tags. The idea was to put RFID tags on MCFE’s trucks while they were under construction and equip the production line with RFID readers. The solution allows MCFE to trace and control the production process down to component level. They are now able to effectively manage their machines, the production of subcomponents and their suppliers.

Nightline: Real Time Track and Trace Nightline uses Track and Trace solution from Zetes Ireland Nightline is Ireland’s largest privately owned parcel delivery company and a specialist in the movement of higher value commodities both internationally and to domestic customers. Nightline, accustomed to offering extremely high levels of customer service to international customers, identified the need to offer domestic customers the same high levels of service in tracking and tracing of goods and understood the important role technology could play in ensuring its competitive advantage.Nightline turned to Zetes Ireland to create a Track and Trace system with an online facility that uses mobile computers to capture tracking information in real time. The devices allow important data to be transmitted to a central database that in turn makes information available for customers on the Nightline website from where they can track the whereabouts of packages in real time. This is achieved because information can be uploaded directly from the driver’s delivery van as soon as it is captured.Using handheld computers and a proof of delivery solution has helped to differentiate Nightline from providers without a comprehensive solution able to convey information to customers in real time.
